Blood Beast
I am now reading "Blood Beast" by Darren Shan; I have only read 13 pages. "My group- me, Loch, Charlie, Frank, Leon, and Mary. loch and I stand a head or more above any of the others. We are the biggest pair of hulks in the school."(pg.10)This quote shows that the main character, Grubbs, is just an ordinary kid at school. The main character, Grubbs, is the same main character from two previous books in the series. I think Grubbs is extremely dynamic through out the three books. In the first book

Hole In My Life
I have read the first 30 pages of the book "Hole In My Life" by Jack Gantos. So far the story is about a misfit teenager in high school who doesn't have too many friends and this eventually leads him to some trouble(He goes to jail).I think this is sort of similar to the book "Demon Thief" by Darren Shan.(I actually read the whole book) In Demon thief the main character, Kernal, feels out of place, he is a misfit boy with no friends who gets into some dangerous situations because he felt lonely and out of place.

Dynamic
I just read the book "Slawter" by Darren Shan. The main character, Grubbs, changes quite a lot from the beginning of the book to the end. In the begging of the book Grubbs is sort of living an ordinary life aside from having to take care of his possibly mentally ill uncle who was traumatized by a demon. At the end of the book Grubbs becomes a very powerful mage after narrowly escaping death by a powerful demon master.

The book Bec takes place in Ireland sometime in the fifth century A.D. Strange stone formations like this one are mentioned. In the book these rock formations are magically charged items put in place by there by beings of old magic which were considered gods. I think its interesting that the book created some mythical explanation for these stone formations. I am not sure if this picture of the stone henge is exactly what was mentioned in the book but I think it is.

What happens to the charecter after the book?
I was sort of disappointed at the ending of "Bec". All the main characters died except for the mentally retarded boy, Bran. Bran's only friends are all dead and he is the only survivor from his village. I think bran is going to either die because he was badly injured at the end of the book or he will be very lonely for the rest of his life if he does survive.
Bec Mini Theme Analysis
I just finished the book "Bec" by Darren Shan, my first book for 2010. One theme I found in the book was if someone does a good deed, it does not mater if there was a selfish motive behind it. In Bec, one of the charecters is trying to close a portal to the demon world and in turn all of humanity will be saved but the only reason he is closing the portal is for a selfish reason. Even though he only did it for himself lots of good things came from it.

Odyssues and other heroes
In the book "Bec"by Darren Shan, one of the heroes,Drust, reminds me of Odysseus from the Odyssey. Both characters share similar traits in my opinion. The thing that I thought was the most similar was when any of their team mates die they do not give up or let it affect them too much. I think someone has to be very strong to not let the death of an ally affect them and their mission or quest.

Themes
I think about a theme as a lesson or moral of a story. Themes are important because they are in almost everything even though you dont notice them sometimes. There in less obvious places than books; themes can be found in most T.V shows, movies, and even your own life sometimes. One theme I liked from the current book I'm reading,"Bec" by Darren Shan, is "you can't beat a skill into someone."
